Installation of the final bridge girders on the US-231/US-431/North Memorial Parkway overpass at Mastin Lake Road in Huntsville will take place over two nights, beginning this evening.
Bridgework subcontractor Miller & Miller will use cranes to raise a total of 12 girders — long, horizontal beams that will support the bridge deck — into place on the south span of the overpass. The overpass is the centerpiece of a $34 million project with contractor Rogers Group to extend the Memorial Parkway mainline and service roads.

Lane closures and stoppages
ALDOT advises motorists to expect single-lane closures on US-231 northbound from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. tonight and the night of Thursday, March 5. Beginning at 9 p.m. each night, there will be a series of 20- to 30-minute northbound traffic stoppages. During each stoppage, cranes will lift a girder from a truck and set it in place. Traffic will be allowed to clear between stoppages.
Also, expect closure of the left turn lane from US-231 northbound to Mastin Lake Road westbound during this timeframe. There will be no other impacts to the Mastin Lake Road intersection or traffic on US-231 southbound.

State troopers will be onsite to assist with traffic control.
Please plan additional travel time or use alternate routes. For real-time traffic and road condition information, visit ALGOtraffic.com or download the ALGO Traffic app.

Project status
The subcontractor previously installed girders for the central span and north span of the overpass. Construction of the bridge deck is underway.
Construction of the south bridge abutment and mechanically stabilized earth walls for the mainline continued through fall and winter.
ALDOT anticipates completion of the project in late 2026.
