The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) today announced plans to fully close the SR-101 Tennessee River crossing for work on the Wheeler Dam bridge during an upcoming weekend.
Currently, the closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 23. In the event of inclement weather, TVA may postpone the closure to the following weekend.
The planned work includes installation of an epoxy overlay on the bridge surface.
Refurbishment and repair work on the bridge began in October. The bridge has been reduced to one lane, with a detour for commercial traffic.
Detour route
During the closure, passenger vehicles must also use the detour.
The detour route is the Singing River Bridge on SR-133/SR-157, via SR-20 on the Lawrence County side of the river and US-72 on the Lauderdale County side.
After the temporary full closure, the bridge will return to single-lane traffic for passenger vehicles. Truck detours will remain the same.
TVA said it anticipates completion of the project this spring.
