Project to improve Hanceville intersection starts

Signs at the intersection of SR-91 and US-31. A mast arm pole is visible on the opposite side of the intersection, while the signals on the near side of the intersection are supported by cables spanning wooden poles.
An ATRIP-II project will improve the intersection of SR-91 and US-31 by adding a turn lane and upgrading the signal pole on the southwest corner of the intersection to a mast arm pole like the one seen in the background.

A project to improve SR-91 at US-31 in Hanceville began this week.

The project includes widening to add a left turn lane on SR-91 northbound and relocation and replacement of the signal pole on the southwest corner of the intersection. It also includes upgrading the signal pole to a mast arm pole matching the pole on the northeast corner.

The $749,325 project with contractor Rogers Group is funded through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II) project. Local sponsor the City of Hanceville provided partial funding.

Initial work includes drilling for the new signal pole site and excavation in preparation for the widening on SR-91 northbound.

ALDOT anticipates completion this summer.
