With 38 years at ALDOT, Eric Davis brings decades of experience and steady leadership to District 83 in Camden. Since becoming District Administrator in May 2025, Davis has focused on strong operations, team development and delivering quality roadway, bridge and shoulder maintenance across the district.

“Our job is to keep traffic moving safely while improving the infrastructure people depend on every day,” Davis said.
District 83 is supported by 34 employees who work together to manage daily operations across a large and diverse system.
“An average day is organized chaos,” Davis said. “No two days are the same, but our team stays focused and gets the work done.”
A district built on teamwork
Even during a transition in leadership, District 83 continues balancing learning, problem-solving and critical maintenance tasks. Crews respond to routine needs and unexpected challenges while working to minimize disruptions for motorists.

Big responsibilities across the region
District 83 maintains:
- More than 304 miles of roadway
- Over 641 lane miles
- 111 bridges
- Twelve state routes and one U.S. route
The work requires coordination among maintenance crews, inspectors, mechanics and administrative staff to keep roadways and rights of way safe and reliable.
Maintenance teams routinely:
- Repair roadway slides
- Remove downed trees and debris
- Place hot mix asphalt and cold mix
- Perform shoulder and culvert repairs
- Remove roadway hazards
“Our crews handle everything from major repairs to everyday maintenance,” Davis said.
Investing in safety and reliability
Several major initiatives are underway or ahead in District 83, including:
- An 11-mile Road Safety Improvement project in Wilcox County
- An upcoming area-wide traffic signal upgrade project
- Ongoing resurfacing, bridge repairs and safety improvement projects
These efforts are designed to improve driving conditions, enhance safety and strengthen long-term reliability across the district.

“We’re not perfect, but we’re always working to be better,” he said. “Our goal is to provide the highest level of service possible to the public.”
