ALDOT is proposing concrete replacement on I-459 in the heart of Hoover. The job would stretch from Lorna Road to the western edge of the Little Shades Creek east of I-65.

The work would also build new auxiliary lanes from I-65 to Acton Road to alleviate merging congestion in both directions.

Each day, more than 115,000 vehicles travel this stretch of I-459, causing the aging concrete to deteriorate.

Plans to replace I-459 concrete near I-65 include long-term lane closures.

There is potential for temporary ramp closures at the I-459 interchange with I-65. The planned detour would be US-31 to SR-119 to I-65 in both directions, if necessary.

The job is currently scheduled to let to contract by the end of 2026. Construction could last up to 15 months.

An online public involvement presentation posted on ALDOT’s web site offers a chance for public input. We encourage the public to take time to review those details and submit their thoughts by June 12.
