Alabama’s I-20 gateway from Georgia continues receiving a refresh.

Since May 2025, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and its contractors have worked hard to renovate the Welcome Center at Exit 213.

Work began renovating the I-20 Welcome Center in May 2025.

A year later, the $12M improvements are in full view.

In addition to renovating existing spaces which include walls, floors and lighting, the project is offering these upgrades:

  • New set of bathrooms
  • Family bathroom
  • Large outdoor vending space
  • New outdoor lighting
  • Pavement resurfacing
The I-20 Welcome Center at MP 213 should be reopen by early next year.

The work also provides the Welcome Center with new power generators and brings the entire complex up to current code specifications.

Construction should wrap up so the popular stop can begin welcoming the 40,000 travelers which pass it daily by February 2027.
