The Alabama Department of Transportation will replace the I-65 northbound rest area near Greenville with a larger, modernized facility.  

Crews will demolish the current structure and build an updated rest area in the same location. The new facility will feature additional parking, bathroom stalls, urinals, and family restrooms.

Crews are making progress on a $12M project to renovate the I-20 Welcome Center at MP 213.

Alabama’s I-20 gateway from Georgia continues receiving a refresh.

Since May 2025, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and its contractors have worked hard to renovate the Welcome Center at Exit 213.

Work began renovating the I-20 Welcome Center in May 2025.

Alabama Welcome Center to close for first phase of work

A $47.5 million project for reconstruction and rehabilitation of 16 miles of I-59 southbound near the Georgia state line will begin after Memorial Day.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 23, the southbound rest area on I-85 in Macon County will be temporarily closed for maintenance and improvements. The northbound rest area will be temporarily closed starting Wednesday, Sept. 24.

During the closure, crews will resurface the parking lots and make minor repairs and paint the buildings, pavilions, and picnic tables.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) plans to close the Welcome Center on I-20 westbound near Milepost 213 the morning of June 9th . 

The Welcome Center is contracted for renovation, addition, new lighting, and resurfacing.  The Welcome Center will remain closed until completion, which is estimated to be February 2027.

Travelers along I-65 near Greenville can look forward to a refreshed and more inclusive experience as ALDOT nears completion on the total rebuild of the Greenville rest area.

State and local officials gathered to cut a ribbon in celebration of the completion and opening of the new Ardmore Welcome Center.

The Ardmore Welcome Center once again opened its off-ramp to travelers today. The welcome center on I-65 near the Tennessee state line was closed for nearly two years to reconstruct the facilities and revamp the grounds.
