A dedication ceremony for new military memorials honoring fallen service members will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the Ardmore Welcome Center on I-65 in Limestone County.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 511 of Athens erected the monuments under permit from ALDOT. Additionally, existing memorials in the welcome center’s monument park underwent cleaning and rehabilitation during the VVA’s project.

“For many years, the Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam Wall Memorial have stood on hallowed ground at the Welcome Center,” the VVA said in a statement. “The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 511 spent the last few years planning the cleaning and restoration of the existing memorials as well as designing new memorials commemorating WWI, WWII, the Global War on Terrorism, and also the Battlefield Cross monument. Now that they are completed, we ask everyone to join us as we dedicate these beautiful monuments honoring the memory of our brave patriots.”

Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony, which takes place a few days in advance of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The new memorials at the welcome center include monuments to service members who gave their lives in WWI, WWII and the Global War on Terror.

“We are extremely pleased with the addition of these new memorials at the Ardmore Welcome Center,” said ALDOT North Region Engineer Derrick Wilson. “The VVA’s project expands the monument park to recognize additional major conflicts from our nation’s history and commemorate those who laid down their lives for our freedom. “

Members of the public may visit the welcome center and view the new monuments anytime.
