The Alabama Department of Transportation will host a come-and-go style public meeting at University Church of Christ to discuss a potential project that will involve the Woolsey Finnell Bridge replacement on US-82 (McFarland Boulevard) in Tuscaloosa.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. where the public can ask questions and view exhibits regarding the proposed project.
ALDOT plans to replace the bridge with a more modern structure to handle traffic demands with three through-traffic lanes in each direction, as well as a bicycle and pedestrian lane. Currently, more than 50,000 vehicles use the bridge each day.
The 1.42-mile project would also include ramp modifications at Jack Warner Parkway and Campus Drive and would upgrade US-82 with additional lanes and signal optimization.
ALDOT intends to keep two lanes open in each direction at all times to lessen the impact to traffic.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025 and will take approximately three to three and a half years to complete. The estimated construction cost is approximately $125 million.
University Church of Christ is located at 1200 Julia Tutwiler Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
ALDOT is conducting online and in-person public involvement for the proposed project. All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Friday, May 31, 2024.
