Work began today to add a finishing touch to the resurfacing of US-431 north of Guntersville in Marshall County.
Venture Construction, a subcontractor for Vulcan Materials on the $6.8 million project, is applying a high friction surface treatment to parts of the highway through Lucas Gap, south of Cathedral Caverns Highway.
High friction surface treatments can improve safety in areas with steep grades or sharp curves.
The surface treatment consists of an epoxy binder coated with bauxite aggregate.
Application of the treatment will be ongoing daily, as weather permits, for the remainder of this week and next week.
Paving complete
Vulcan has completed all paving on the seven-mile-long project, from the north end of the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Tennessee River in Guntersville to the junction with Cathedral Caverns Highway.
The contractor is currently placing stone on the roadway shoulders. Other remaining work items include guardrail installation and permanent traffic striping and pavement markers.
