Be aware of National Bicycle Safety Month this May

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is urging everyone to be alert and keep bicyclists safe. The month of May marks National Bicycle Safety Month across the United States.

Nationwide, 1,166 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2023 while an additional 49,489 bicyclists were injured in traffic crashes.

A project to add additional truck passing lanes on US-431 in Chambers County will begin on March 24, 2025. The project was awarded to Gary Ingram Grading and Paving, Inc., the lowest bidder, for $8.17 million. The contractor will have 170 working days to complete the project. A resurfacing project on SR-51 in Barbour County begins Tuesday, March 11, weather permitting.

The project will take place on SR-51 from West Street in Louisville to SR-239 in Clayton.
