Drivers in the Wallace Tunnel now have a safer experience thanks to a new road treatment designed to improve traction and reduce the risk of crashes. The application of a high-friction surface treatment (HFST) enhances safety by increasing tire grip, particularly in areas where roadway conditions make vehicles more prone to skidding or losing control.

The concept for modifications to improve safety by converting US-43 at SR-64 to a reduced-conflict intersection.

The Alabama Department of Transportation aims to improve safety at a Lauderdale County intersection using an alternative intersection design.

The $451,098 project, starting this week, will convert the intersection of US-43 and SR-64, north of Killen, to a reduced conflict intersection.

The contractor, Rogers Group, plans to begin work Thursday, weather permitting.
