Resurfacing of SR-117 between SR-75 in Ider and SR-71 in Flat Rock will begin Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Resurfacing of about 5.5 miles of SR-117 in DeKalb and Jackson counties will start Wednesday, Sept. 2, weather permitting.

Rogers Group, the contractor on the $1.7 million project, will mill and resurface the two-lane highway from SR-75 in Ider to SR-71 in Flat Rock.

ALDOT Dutton District Administrator Curtis Lowe turns 80 this weekend.

Lowe joined ALDOT straight out of high school on May 26, 1964, two months before his 18th birthday.

“I graduated one night, and I went to work in the morning,” said Lowe, who started as an engineering assistant on the construction of I-59 in Attalla.

The $9.6 million project will add lanes to part of SR-35 in Section.

A contractor will tentatively begin work next week to construct additional lanes on about one mile of SR-35 in Section.

The $9.6 million project will widen the three-lane highway to five lanes — two through lanes in each direction and a center turn lane — from Williams Street to north of Scenic Drive.

ALDOT's Guntersville Area paving crew works to repair SR-73 in Jackson County after the road was damaged by a burst water pipe.

ALDOT crews are working this week on SR-73 in Jackson County to repair road damage caused by a burst water pipe.

The burst water pipe under SR-73 near milepost 3, between Higdon and Bryant, washed out the subbase of the highway, according to ALDOT maintenance personnel.
