ALDOT to begin US-31 project in Chilton County this week

Feb 26

The Alabama Department of Transportation plans to resurface, add two feet of safety widening, install guardrail and place new traffic striping on US-31 from the intersection of Inverness Drive in Clanton to the intersection of Collins Street in Thorsby this week.

Additionally, US-31 will be restriped from the existing four lanes to three lanes from just north of Cherokee Road to Medical Center Drive. This new three-lane configuration will consist of one through-lane for northbound and southbound traffic and a continuous left-turn lane. This change will help improve traffic operations and efficiency along the route.

Motorists should expect possible delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits. Lane closures are only allowed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. to reduce the impact to traffic. For the latest traffic conditions visit algotraffic.com.

Dunn Construction Company was awarded the 7.1-mile project at $4.52 million, and it is expected to last approximately six months.
