On Thursday, February 29, weather permitting, traffic will shift to the new bridge on SR-81 over Uphapee Creek, north of Tuskegee, in Macon County.
In November 2022, construction of the new bridge began. Traffic was able to utilize the existing structure while the new structure was constructed.
Even though the new bridge will be open to traffic, the project still has work to be completed.
The contractor will now begin safely demolishing the older structure. The project is still on schedule to be completed this Summer.
The contractor on the $10.4 million project is McInnis Construction, LLC, out of Summerdale, Ala.
