In 2022, 75% of crashes that occurred on Alabama’s roadways were property-damage-only crashes. To reduce the impact to traffic flow, Alabama has passed Quick Clearance Laws that are designed to protect ALDOT workers, first responders and to ensure traffic resumes quickly after a crash occurs.

Most of the work on the US-72/Florence Boulevard widening project takes place behind concrete barriers, separating traffic from workers.

Lane closures are planned this week for the US-72/Florence Boulevard widening project between Indian Springs Drive and Sky Park Road in Lauderdale County. The closures will be implemented outside peak travel times to limit impacts to traffic.

The Bankhead Tunnel in Mobile reopened to traffic at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. The landmark tunnel was closed during the prior week for electrical and other systems upgrades. It was originally slated to reopen on Friday. Feb. 23, but unforeseen mechanical issues caused a delay.
