ATRIP-II to improve Church Street in Rainbow City

The project will install a signal at the intersection of SR-77 and Church Street to provide some relief for the busy intersection of SR-77 and US-411.

Work will begin Monday, March 16, to improve traffic operations on Church Street, US-411 and SR-77 in Rainbow City.

The $1.1 million project with contractor Temple J Electric includes installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Church Street and SR-77 as well as upgrades to signal and detection equipment at several nearby signals.

Most North Alabama state routes pretreated ahead of winter storm

ALDOT workers make salt brine for pretreatment of state routes at the Dutton District Office in Jackson County on Friday.

ALDOT pretreated most state routes in North Alabama in the lead up to this weekend’s anticipated winters storm.

The pretreatment coverage, by county, in ALDOT’s North Region follows:

Part of I-59 in Etowah, DeKalb counties to close Friday for repairs

ALDOT will close I-59 between Reece City and Collinsville and divert traffic Friday to allow the contractor reconstructing I-59 southbound to make needed repairs to the northbound roadway.

About 17 miles of I-59 in northern Etowah County and southern DeKalb County will close Friday, Dec. 19, for repairs.

A significant segment of the southbound roadway between Reece City and Collinsville is being reconstructed by contractor Vulcan Materials. During the project, both directions of traffic have been sharing the northbound roadway.

Bids opened for sixth I-59 reconstruction project

ALDOT opened bids today on a project to reconstruct and rehabilitate parts of the I-59 southbound roadway, left. The corresponding northbound segments were or are in the process of being reconstructed by previous and ongoing projects.

Total contracts approach $240 million

ALDOT opened bids today for an I-59 reconstruction project to replace and rehabilitate parts of the aging southbound roadway in DeKalb County. The project is expected to push the total of contracts for the corridor’s reconstruction to nearly $240 million.

“Useless overpass” and Eastside Drive bridge slated for painting

A contractor for ALDOT will paint the "useless" overpass on US-231/SR-53/South Memorial Parkway in Huntsville to help to protect the bridge and extend its useful life.

New paint will help extend the useful life of what many Huntsville residents refer to as the “useless overpass.”

Cekra Inc., working on a $420,000 contract, will paint the overpass on US-231/SR-53/South Memorial Parkway in Huntsville as well as an overpass on I-759 in Gadsden.

RCUTs installed at two north Alabama intersections

At RCUT intersections like the one recently constructed on US-411 at Appalachian Highway in Etowah County, motorists on the main highway can still make left turns, but motorists on the side street must make a right, followed by a U-turn.

Contractors for The Alabama Department of Transportation recently completed construction of two Restricted Crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersections in north Alabama.

SR-77 “Little Bridge” inspection set for Monday

The aging truss bridge known as the Little Bridge will undergo inspection Monday, July 7. During the inspection, ALDOT will shift northbound SR-77 traffic to one lane of the more modern southbound bridge, visible in the background.

State bridge inspectors will inspect the northbound SR-77 bridge over the Coosa River between Southside and Rainbow City on Monday, July 7.

Five miles of I-59 southbound between Collinsvile and Reece City closed this week for reconstruction. Traffic is rerouted to the northbound roadway.

Several miles of the aging concrete I-59 roadway in southern DeKalb County and northern Etowah County closed this week for reconstruction.
