New Blount County triple roundabout upgrades are designed to lower the number of serious wrecks at the busy intersections on SR-160 near I-65 (Exit 284).

For years, those interchanges kept Hayden police officers busy.

Since the department’s inception in 2019, responding to crashes on the roadway became a regular duty.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin temporary lane closures for the Pike Road roundabout project on Tues., Sept. 2.

The lane closures will be at the I-85/SR-126/US-80 intersection to further progress the project. The lane closures will be in place nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until work is complete, approximately three nights.

Starting this Monday, October 14, construction will begin to install two new roundabouts in Pike Road.  These roundabouts will be installed at the intersections of SR-126 and US-80 and Marler Road and US-80.

This project is a joint effort between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Town of Pike Road.
