Be aware of National Bicycle Safety Month this May

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is urging everyone to be alert and keep bicyclists safe. The month of May marks National Bicycle Safety Month across the United States.

Nationwide, 1,166 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2023 while an additional 49,489 bicyclists were injured in traffic crashes.

ALDOT is sending 14 employees to the Southeastern Regional Equipment ROADeo competition.

The annual Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) state ROADeo was held on Wednesday, May 14 in Montgomery.

This competition puts ALDOT’s most skilled equipment operators to the test. Each operator won their area event to earn the opportunity to compete at the state ROADeo in Montgomery.

The $4 million ATRIP-II project includes installation of signals on SR-53 at the intersections with Old Railroad Bed Road, pictured, and Harvest Road.

Final paving will begin this week for improvements at three intersections on SR-53 north of Huntsville in Madison County.

Rogers Group, the contractor on the $4 million Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II project, may begin paving Wednesday, May 14, if weather permits.

Vulcan Materials will resurface about seven miles of US-431 from the north the Tennessee River in Guntersville to Cathedral Caverns Highway, south of Grant.
